Director: Roger Kumble (Just Friends, The Sweetest Thing)
Melanie is eagerly looking forward to taking her first big step towards independence when she plans a 'girls only' road trip to check out prospective universities.
However, when her imposing police-chief dad insists on escorting her instead, she soon finds her dream trip turning into a nightmare full of misfortune and turmoil. Dad wants to assure total security and safety for his precious daughter, while Melanie has a 17-year-old's need to become a grown woman and have her own sense of independence.
Now, even as dad and daughter bicker, banter and careen from one disaster to the next on their journey, they are about to discover that, sometimes, going that extra mile to be together can forge a family bond so strong it can withstand anything--even wild curves ahead.

James Porter (Martin Lawrence) and his daughter Melanie (Raven Symone) are starting to look for a suitable College for her to attend. James wants her to attend North Western as it is close by whereas she wants to attend Georgetown which she has an interview with. James is a Police Chief and is over protective of her, his wife Michelle and son Trey, he even has security cameras around the house.
James decides he will take Melanie to Georgetown, however he stops at North Western on their way to entice her but an incident occurs and neither father or daughter think the campus is right so they continue on to DC. On their journey-road trip they will face many obstacles and challenges. Will they get to Georgetown on time? Together?
Sadly I’m not the target audience for these films therefore my grade is probably a tad harsh. I found myself wanting to leave many times throughout but decided to stick it out which in hindsight was a poor move. The reason is that kiddie films are so predicable and very few surprise or enlighten mature viewers. Also the fact that I grew up enjoying the foul-mouthed films bad boy Martin Lawrence did earlier in his career also dampen the experience. Meanwhile I’ve found co-star Raven very annoying from her Cosby days and even more so now.
I don’t believe I laughed once, but cringed a lot – the whole storyline seemed somewhat stale and very very familiar. Poor performances throughout and a very bad and predictable plot makes this film a very strong favourite for worst film of the year.
